Governor Vows to Fight Homeschooling Ban
Arnold Schwarzenegger, California Governor
said
"parents should have the right to decide what's best for
their children" in response to a
court ruling banning homeschooling
and called it an "outrageous ruling" which "must be
overturned".
Despite Governor Schwarzenegger's offer of new law to support
homeschooling advocates, they point out that the current California
Education Code does not address homeschooling and they would like
to keep it that way.
"We just want to leave it alone because it's
good the way it is... The law as it stands is working
well in California", said Loren Mavromati
As pointed out by
the article
in the San Francisco Chronicle, responsibility of raising,
educating and protecting children has been part of the
parent-child relationship long prior to any governing body.
It is outrageous for Judge H. Walter Croskey to state "parents
do not have a constitutional right to homeschool their children"
(ref).
These sort of statements beg the question whether the judge
has even read, let alone understands, the United States
Constitution -- if in fact he was referencing said doctrine.
